So the family has gotten all settled in at our new home in Palencia and we are ready to start exploring our area. First, what are some good local restaurants? I know you guys always mention several in the historical areas of J'ville, but anything else? I'm talking about the little guys, not the chain restaurants. Also, anything "family fun" to take the kids too? I know in the heat all I want to do is hit the pool or the beach, but I want to find some fun things for the kids to enjoy. They're still bummed about leaving Panama City so I would like to show them what their new hometown has to offer!

Thanks for the advice!

You're about 20 miles closer to downtown St Augustine than you are to downtown Jax.
So in St Augustine try eating at;
O"Steens ~ seafood
Playa Choc Mool ~ Mexican
Zhanra's ~ tapas
Black Molly Grill ~ American
Gas-Full Service Restaurant ~ Southern American
Great Wraps ~ sandwiches
Spy ~ Japanese
Pizza Time ~ pizza
Creekside Dinery ~ American
Cap's on the Water ~ waterfront seafood

Take the kids to;
Castillo de San Marcos
Ripleys
Alligator Farm
Pirate Museum
Fountain of Youth
The Beach

Update the address on your driver license as soon as possible. It may cost $20 or $30 to do so, but you'll get into quite a few of the local attractions in St. Augustine for free with a St. Johns County address on your license. Other places will give you a discount off regular price admission.

Great suggestions above. Also, on the days that are just too hot to be outside (even at the pool or beach), consider:

-IMAX theater at World Golf Village
-Museum of Science and History in downtown Jax
-Latitude 30 on Phillips Hwy (bowling and arcade games; family friendly during the day)
-$1 movies at the Regal Cinemas on Phillips Hwy on Tue and Wed mornings

That's awesome! Thanks for the reminder. Plus it will save me the additional fine if I get pulled over with an incorrect address

We love Hooked on Harry's and and A1A Aleworks.

With the kids in St. Augustine you can also do carriage rides (at night when it's cool) and "train" rides which are just trolleys shaped like trains. You can also try the ghost tours, I haven't been brave enough yet

Is there a list of these anywhere?
