I was down there earlier today for lunch (Fionn MacCool's) and while there were some people there, it wasn't a lot. After lunch my wife wanted to go shopping at Belk's at Regency, and to me it looked like there were more people in Belk's than at the entire Landing. And that's at Regency, a mall that is well past it's prime. So again I will say the Landing is OK for eating and nic-nack shopping, but ... it could be so much more than a one time tourist destination.

Tens of thousands of workers within .5 miles of it. Of whom the majority of at 5pm make a mad dash back to the suburbs from whence they ventured. Maybe 100-200 actually go to the landings food courts to grab a bite of lunch. And maybe that many stay late after work and have dinner with a great view. But it's definitely not tens of thousands of them.

Yup. And, I've been there during the week during the lunch hours. I wouldn't say it was hopping. Obviously, there were people there, however, where else do those who work in the area have to go for lunch? So it's not like people are making a choice about going to the Landing or elsewhere. Yet, it wasn't PACKED with people. And the weather was absolutely perfect that day--75ish and sunny with a nice breeze.

It's really a shame as it could easily be a great place to go have a bunch of fun...sort of like most of the downtown area. It could be so much more....

I'm not really sure where most DT workers live. And I'm not sure where you define the suburbs be Ortega.

Is St. Nicholas a suburb? Ortega?

I agree maybe 100 go to the food court for lunch. However, I had forgotten all about the food court.

When I think of The Landing food options, I'm thinking Finn, Bennys, Sushi place, Vino's, Hooters, Cinco, American Cafe, Village Bread, Chicago Pizza, the Ice Cream place and the little natural food grab-n-go kiosk. Obviously, many many more people go to places, or they wouldn't be in business.

The food court sucks in general (but the cajun chicken, wraps, and burgers aren't bad).

Yes Ortega and St Nicholas are suburbs just as Springfield, San Marco, Riverside/Avondale, Julington Creek, Argyle and Ponte Vedra are suburbs. If they are not "Downtown" urban Jacksonville, they are considered the suburbs.

I'd lay a pretty heavy wager that most Jax residents think of the area within a 3-4 mile radius of the actual Downtown core to be "Downtown" as well. Downtown is used a general label, just as the Southside, Northside, Beaches, etc more often that the actual small boundaries.

You would probably lose that wager if you asked people who actually live in those neighborhoods.

skooba,

Not as fun as these surronding counties!

Or the Southside!
Law & Disorder: Police see similarities in pair of Southside Jacksonville bank heists | jacksonville.com

1 shot after robbery on Jacksonville's Southside Tuesday night | jacksonville.com

Scary! Don't go there!

Or, like every part of the city: Crime happens.

Even a guy that got high at the beach, then came to The Landing, and was arrested for getting mouthy with a security guard, as your article says.

But, I guess you missed this at The Landing this past weekend...

Or was this another one of my mass halluncinations?

No one goes to The Landing. It's a dump. There are no businesses there. They aren't opening new businesses. People don't spend their free time there. There's nothing to do there.

(yawn). I could correct ridiculous opinions every day.
