We just moved to Jax; any suggestions on the better montessoris? I work in downtown. We are also looking for a decent safe place to live. Which of the beaches area are better, though not too expensive? I heard PVB is "classy" and of course expensive...we are not limiting to beaches area only. Thanks

If you work in Downtown, you don't have to far to find popular neighborhoods.

Riverside & Avondale historic district, San Marco, and Springfield historic district surrond Downtown offer good quality-of-life, and have been featured in a plethora of international, national, state, and local press over the last few years. They're walkable & bikeable (a rarity in Jax), have many parks, embrace local, independent shops & cafes over chain restaurants and big box stores, are the center of the arts, culture, & festivals (along with Downtown itself), and are unique and eclectic neighborhoods - no cookie cutters.

Here's a sampling of recent press, bu there's more if you're interested...

'A life of its own': amid a sour economy, historic Springfield is mending on its own terms.(Springfield, Jacksonville) - Florida Trend | HighBeam Research

San Marco and Avondale are the most posh, with few houses or area in need of renovation, Riverside is mostly restored and developed but still has some rough edges, and Springfield is in the middle of it's transition (hence, least to most in term of bang for your buck).

To get back to your original question, without getting sidetracked.
Jax Beach is probably the least expensive (but it's more commercial) followed by Neptune Beach. (a little more expensive) Then comes Atlantic/Seminole Beach (slightly less than PVB) Finally PVB which is very expensive for wha you get.

As far as the montessori schools in Jax heres some links ...

I recently moved to PVB (from Jax), and I've been pleasantly surprised at how welcoming and family-oriented PVB has been. So don't write it off as being "snobby."

Jax Beach would be closest to Discovery Montessori, which is considered the best Montessori school out here (I also hear good things about the one in San Marco). Everyone I know who sends their kids here loves it. The only negative I've ever heard is price.

There is also a magnet Montessori elementary school, J Allen Axon, which is located off Hodges, just north of JTB. I hear mixed reviews on this school -- some people love it, some hate it (and pull their kids).

I know the original poster stated he/she works in downtown Jacksonville, but just in case anyone comes upon this thread by searching for the term "montessori" I wanted to state how happy I was with Moultrie Montessori School in St. Augustine. It's located on State Road 16 about a mile west of US 1. Not practical for anyone in Duval County, but for anyone moving to St. Augustine, it's a great option. My daughter attended and I fully recommend it.

Also, St. Augustine Public Montessori School opened this year. It serves 1st to 6th grade, but not kindergarten. I have not yet heard any feedback, other than it hired a director with tons of montessori experience.

See the post just above your post. St Augustine is still in St Johns County.
