While Springfield is trying to breakout of it's past you definitely need to beware of it's problems. A lot of people promote it's one square mile Historic section, outside of that area things change dramatically. I would be cautious of a community that has to pay for extra police protection outside of what they are receiving from the police now.

He said he could possibly transfer within his company. While JAX does have a very high murder rate, it is also the largest landmass city in the country. The crime is very segregated and there are plenty of safe places to live.

Jacksonville can be great option for people living in the high tax, high cost of living northeast.

And prefer the safety of a concealed weapons law I might add.

You do realize no one recommended that area, right? The original poster's criteria doesn't lend itself to that neighborhood. Besides, paying cops to do a little extra patroling a few hours a week isn't any different than a gated community hiring a full-time security guard (or multiple, as many have). Becareful! (ha)

Honestly with the money you would save from moving from the NE, you could pay a personal bodyguard.

It is kind of different. We have a "security company" that has roving cars - but no one carries guns. If the need for a gun/law enforcement were to arise - the police would be called. We do hire people from the SJCSO (I don't know how many - or for how many hours). We hire them to patrol traffic - enforce the traffic laws and give out traffic tickets when appropriate (our private security can't give out tickets). Robyn
