Thanks Ryde. Sorry I am coming from a small city in Singapore. So I assumed the city is small. What matters to me is safe. Cool. The condo looks good. Will research more pver the weekend Beside a lake too. Are you guys driving in the city as well? What is the life like in Jacksonville? How do you guys commute as well? Shuttle? Car? Trains?

Jacksonville is actually the #1 largest city (land area wise) in the Continental United States. AND #11 in the United States in total population. Jacksonville has a city run bus service (JTA) that hardly anyone rides, no city rail service, but they have been talking about getting that going for years. The main mode of transportation in Jacksonville is privately owned vehicles. usually cars, trucks, vans or motorcycles.

Is income tax free in Florida?

I did my research and realize Florida is tax free from income. If getting a house, it is taxable. Does this apply to foreigners?

Coming from SEA, I highly recommend you look at Riverside, Avondale, or San Marco (preferably R/A).

Gate Parkway is blaaaaand. Superhighways, traffic, parking lots, sprawl. More a suburb than city living. Plus, it's not as safe as it used to be.

For quality of life, young people, amenities, independent businesses and "local"--don't look at Gate Parkway.

P.s., it will be a 10-20 minute drive to work from R/A, San Marco, etc, to your work. Well worth it.

You still pay Federal Income Tax in Florida just like in every other state.
What you don't pay in Florida is a State Income Tax as it's not allowed or
mandated by the FL. Constitution. (but that can be changed by the people,
with just 1 vote in a general election)
Yes, if you purchase a house you must still pay the taxes, stamps and title fees,
even if you are or are not a foreigner.

Yes, the young don't usually flock to Gate Parkway but I'd say there are lots of young professionals. It wouldn't be bad for someone to sign a short lease near their job and then figure out where they want to live. Living in Riverside you can still get to your job easy enough and you'll probably enjoy your life better walking to parks and shops.

Going from Riverside to Gate Parkway would usually be a "reverse commute". But there's a big construction projection on I-95 which is scheduled to start in 2013. Don't know how long it will take - or how much it will disrupt traffic. Robyn

Hi Mad -> Federal Income Tax in Florida = 7.65% per month to Federal Reserve? Haha. Oh man, that's alright i guess.

Hi Ben Says -> Are you SEA? Riverside and Avondale should be safe I reckon? Is there any chinese food and groceries around these areas? I am looking at a condo which is on a higher level rather than in a bungalow.

Hi All -> From riverside it is best i drive? Is car being taxed as well? Kindly advise.

Thanks
