I currently work palm coast, which may probably be your best bet. You can reach St Agustine using either US 1 or I 95 which is 20-30 mins drive. You won't find much for $700 and under in the st agustine area as it is a historical area, meaning lots to visitors and rents cater for such. On the outskirt's of St Augustine there are lots of mobile homes on SR 207 that you can possibly get for in the $600's/month, some are well kept while others are run down.
Palm Coast is currently in a real estate ditch which is good and now is your best chance to buy a good brick or block home in the $150,000's or even lower . Rents here have also plumetted so you can get a 3 or 4 bedroom house to yourself for $800/month A year ago those were in the $1000's. Most of Palm Coast is well kept, there are no ghettos and most homes available were built in the last 5-10 years when flagler county was experiencing a big real estate boom.
Here is the best local resource to search for rentals, real estate and jobs in St Johns county- for St Augustine and flagler county for Palm Coast Florida Pennysavers
Search for thread "Palm Coast info" if you decide on palm coast you can be closer to work by looking for homes in the north areas of Palm Coast these include the sections with streets that start with F, C, L, W, P and B's
