I'm considering reloing somewhere in the general vicinity of Jax within the next few months. I spent a couple of months there at the end of '11 and really enjoyed it but I don't think I really learned all I want to know.

My circumstances are: middle aged, single woman. I work from home so commute is not an issue and my child is grown and won't be reloing with me so schools aren't an issue.

I loved the beaches area - Jax Beach, Neptune, etc. and I think I want to live (probably rent first) within an easy bike ride's distance (3-5 miles?) to the beach.

I do like the vibe around Avondale and Riverside but am not sure I want to be that far from the beaches.

My sister and her family live in St. John's so I'd like to be no more than 45 minutes from them. I'm open to hearing about other beach towns (PV? St. Augustine? others?)

All that said, do you have recommendations for areas to consider living? I dream of a funky beach bungalow and shudder at the thought of living in a big, white box where every house looks the same. Would hate to end up in an apartment.

The other thing I'd like to know about is what is there to do in the area? I love live music and am wondering what the live music scene is like?

And finally, the only people I will know there are my sis and her family so suggestions about how/where to meet people would be great.

Thank you in advance!

Sounds like you answered your own question to me. Rent Jax Beach/Neptune/Atlantic Beach. There is definitely live music there and you gotta stay true to your dream. That's where you need to be. Sounds good too. I'm a little jealous to be honest.

Thanks, abvavgjoe! Why jealous? Aren't you staying true to your dreams?

Fsu813 - do you mean my budget for renting? About $1200/mo max, I'm thinking. Possible at the beaches?

Another question for you - what are the best sources for finding a rental at the beaches? I've looked at realtor.com and Craigslist. Other suggestions?

Ha! Did you miss the "middle age" part?!? I promise it will be very tame - lots of meditating, soaking in the sun, watching sunrises/set but probably not much more exciting than that.

Oh C'mon now, maharishi. Don't try to kid a kidder. You said you like live music, right?! There's your excitement right there!

Fair enough! I also love happy hour and people watching. Drinkies, sun, sand, ocean breezes, people watching...I might think I died and went to heaven. Now if only I could get my kid and her hubby to agree to move too....
