People say positive things about Fletcher High School and Ponte Vedra High school at Jacksonville Beach. Anywhere in those districts will put you at the beach. There's a new Publix there also. The rentals are mostly private at the beach or you can find apartment complexes on Marsh Landing Boulevard/ Ponte Vedra Lakes Boulevard or some out on A1A.

Default Jax High Schools really scare me

I was planning to move to Jacksonville to take a job, but I'm having second thoughts. My daughter will be going into high school. The only good schools are Stanton and Pax -- both of which are magnets. You have to live in the area to even apply to be in the "pool" of applicants. She is very bright and in a Math and Science magnet middle school in SC. We live in a very nice town outside of Charleston with all schools rated "10" by the Great Schools. I just find it so hard to believe that there is not one decent public high school in the entire town! I can't afford private school, so I think I'm going to have to pass on the job. St. Johns sounds much better but that would be a horrendous commute. Have other people noticed this? (I got all my info from the US News and World report high school rankings. I had to be really picky in SC, but we're in a great school district. I don't think that's possible in Jax.

The best schools in St. John's (which also happen to be the best schools in the state) are in the very northern end of the county, literally right on the county line next to Jax, so the commute might not be as bad as you think. We live in St. John's and almost everyone I know commutes to Jacksonville from our neighborhood. If you feel so inclined, you could post the general area of your job location, and we can try to let you know what you could expect for a commute!

I just moved here from Montana and have been looking for a place to live, other than with my sister and her family and from what I have seen and read in here Ponte Vedra meets your criteria. Everyone on here say that St John's county schools are the best in the state and having driven through Ponte Vedra have noticed that is definitely a "a nice beachy friendly safe family town" only problem I have with Ponte Vedra is it's too expensive and too far from my night job, for me right now.
