Hello all. We are very excited to have just purchased a vacation home on Amelia Island. We close at the end of July, so I am thinking about the best internet solution for a home where we won't be there most of the time (but really need connectivity when we're there, as we have 5 children). I have done some research and rather than pay a monthly fee to an ISP, I am considering a Jetpack from Verizon, which in effect creates a wifi hotspot. $99 for the device and then you pay for data as and when you need it, so I can activate when we're there, and no fees when we're not. The downside to this solution is that its expensive data when activated ($90 for a month of 10gb data).

Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation or thoughts on the best approach? Many thx for your help.

If you have cable/satellite TV, bundling Internet seems like a no-brainer, it couldn't be more than 30 to 40 bucks more a month. Seems like a lot less hassle than a hotspot and worrying about how much data you actually use.

Many newer mobile phones have a wifi hotspot function already built-in. See if your phone has that feature and just use that. Of course, any devices that you intend to use must also be wifi-capable.

Thx for the replies so far. We are Canadians so using our existing phones as a hotspot wont work, as it will be prohibitively expensive. As for cable TV, not sure yet if we'll actually get this, so still would like to explore stand alone internet options. More suggestions welcome, particularly from anyone with a vacation home dealing with the same issue. Thx!
