We currently live in Central Florida and hubby was laid off in April. Our towns jobs are really lacking and he has been searching in Tampa and Orlando. Haven't had much luck. How is the job market for IT in Jacksonville? Should we just leave the state all together? Feeling really discouraged right now

I'm in the process of potentially relocating and I've been doing a fair amount of research and Jacksonville seems to have a fair amount of opportunities (look at indeed.com) in that field. Hope that helps.

Even with the improved job market in the area its still difficult to land something by sitting in your underwear all day and applying off of the job boards. Network on linkedin by directly contacting the IT recruiters that staff contract and permanent positions, and join the SQL users groups in the area. Both should be easy to find. You can't be passive and just wait by the phone for someone from HR to call you back. Those days are long gone.

I agree with this, JAX has a pretty active developers group that meets weekly or bi-weekly. It's a great place to network.

Yes my hubby has done all of this. He has several recruiters helping and he has gone on a ton of actual interviews. Obviously he just isn't sitting around waiting for someone to call.
