We will soon be stationed at Mayport and looking for a place to live. I need help with narrowing down my location for house hunting. We have small children so main priority is finding a great public school. Would love to be in St. Johns County but we'd like to be no more than 30 minutes from base. Not sure if that's possible for St. Johns County. $1500/mo is a good estimate for budget. Would love to be in a great family friendly neighborhood. If anyone has ideas on specific neighborhoods to look into I'd appreciate it.

Ponte Vedra in St Johns County is less than 30 minutes to NS Mayport I believe. And there should be a couple of apartment complexes there that are under your budget. Soleil, Remington and Grand Cay Villas to name a few.

I love the looks of Nocatee in ponte vedra area but think it's a little expensive. We're looking for a single family home, not apartments, but thank you for the suggestions!

Nocatee is a bit more than 30 minutes away.
And I don't believe you can get a house in Ponte Vedra for $1500.
You might be able to rent one in Atlantic Beach, which is real close to NS Mayport
and has excellent schools, so I hear in here. (CD-Jacksonville forum)

Any other suggestions besides Ponte Vedra that might be in our budget? What about the Hodges Blvd. area? Safe? Looks like Chet's Creek is a good elementary school.

There are some decent condos just outside Mayport's gate. They're small, but you'll be close to base and to the beach. If Mayport doesn't hava a housing office, got to NAS JAX and ask. There are some neighborhoods that might appear to be what you're looking for that the housing office will tell you absolutely not to move there. Well, what they tell you is, "If it was my family, I would never move them into that neighborhood."

Haha, we will absolutely not live just outside Mayport's gate. From what I understand that is not a safe area at all. Or at least not to the standards we are willing to accept. I'll keep on the hunt!

Look in Neptune Beach, just north of Jacksonville Beach and just south of Atlantic Beach. Good schools and good neighborhood, so I hear.
