I saw somewhere that Lewis was not happy about all the new TEs that were brought in and was complaining or something and that may have played into his release?

Still, we're back to last year's WR corp plus Moncreif (with Hurns injured so much of last season he hardly counted). Hardly inspires confidence given Blake's inconsistency.
Lewis probably did chirp a bit. In regards to the the option, it's not guaranteed till sometime later this year so no harm there. The cap hit on that option is $250k for 2018. Jags pick up $3.25m in cap space with this move.

I absolutely love these moves. Hurns isn't worth that kind of money and, frankly, neither is ARob. Arob put up huge numbers in junk time for a single season, then was extremely average the following season (regularly had trouble getting open) and then tore his ACL this past season. With Cole and Westbrook coming on, plus the Lee resigning and signing of a very good Donte Moncrief I think we've got a good nucleus of WR talent. Likely will add some depth late in the draft and possibly with another free agent.

I know Lewis is beloved in this city but come on, can we really afford to pay that kind of money to an aging TE with limited pass catching skills? He's a very good blocker but beyond that he's no longer an every down TE and with the signings of Niles Paul and Seferian-Jenkins the writing was on the wall for him. Hope he picks up with a contender, he's always said and done the right things while regularly playing for very bad teams here. Eventually I bet he decides to coach, I know he was well respected in the locker room.

So now with the TE signings, I doubt the Jags draft a pass catching TE in the first round. They might still look to shore up their interior O-line with a center or maybe even decide to get another tackle. Will be interesting to say the least!

I agree that the team made the right decision. I am sad to see Hurns and Marcedes go but it was the right move from a business/performance standpoint. They're both really good guys and it would have been nice to have them enjoy in whatever success the team has moving forward, but Hurns' contract was way too big (even bigger than what Marqise just signed) and at the end of the day I'm sure some team is going to overpay him so good for him. Lewis was probably not going to stick regardless of his price, since we picked up ASJ and Paul and I bet we will draft a TE as well. (I disagree with Florida2014 as I think it's totally possible in round 1)

I'm not sure if Marcedes was unhappy with the FA TE signings, but he was upset about the Jags releasing him a week after the start of FA which hurts his prospects a bit. I empathize with him and agree that he deserves better after all his dedication, but at the same time it was what was best for the team. He was a backup plan in case they didn't land the other TEs.

Jaguars get screwed with only 2 prime time games (Sunday night at home vs Steelers and Thursday @ Titans) and 1 semi prime time (4:25pm national game @ Pats). The only prime time game at home vs Steelers can be flexed out.

Meanwhile, the 49ers who went 6-10, have 5 prime time games. Garoppolo better be good!

I prefer 1pm games especially at home so I'm not complaining but talk about no respect given by the NFL.

EDIT: Thursday @ Titans

Its actually a Thursday Night game. But I agree about the disrespect. That's nuts they did not make the Monday Night Football slate.

I hope that means this team has a chip on their collective shoulders all season and plays angry and earns the respect of the NFL. In the end it might be a benefit as I know players hate the Sun/Thur or Mon/Sun weeks as it gives them less time to rest/prepare for the next game.

Would we expect anything different from the NFL and it's media partners like ESPN for example? The status quo is carefully protected in the NFL in terms of whose popular and who's not, and will require at least two more 10-11 win seasons before the Jags are begrudgingly accepted.

I don’t even like the Jaguars but that was disgraceful . Maybe they will be competitive again this year and they will be on Sunday Nights since NBC has that flex schedule for the second half of the season. I’m a Giants fan and I feel, they don’t deserve one game on prime time.

Also noticed that the opening Monday night football game is Lions and Jets. Not exactly a must see match up. And espn pays $1.9 billion for these crappy games.

They get the prime NYC viewership and a load of advertising bucks with lots of network hype to get it sold. The fans in the end are left to deal with it...

Jacksonville is one of the smallest markets and be what it may, behind closed doors there must be talks about NFL revenue and the future.

As far as Jaguars football, it is great seeing the tarps come off and all the improvements being made. I don't particularly like the way the city is being manipulated into supporting the owners vision and downtown expansion on the city's dime but that is a topic for a political post

For 2018 I would like to see a healthy and razor sharpe Bortles connecting with his receivers and another great defensive line. It's time to start another run for the playoff's not trying to figure out our quarterback situation

In regards to the link I provided, I really do not think politics plays such a role in loss of viewers. Something is happening in the way we watch TV. It has to do with age and technology, demographics. I have been working in the same manufacturing facility for 29 years (in the south) and NASCAR is dead as far as water cooler talk, apparel and interest. Back in the early 90's come Friday and Monday that was what everyone was talking about. Even interest in the NFL is shrinking.

My three cents
