It is widely accepted that the school system in St. Johns County is better than in most other counties. And since you are thinking of moving to St. Augustine I would recommend that you take a look at the area around the World Golf Village. There are quite a few subdevelopments in St. Johns County that are similar because the same builders are involved in all the sites but the WGV has a different feel because of the WGV.

The only caveat is that if you are planning on commuting to Jacksonville on a daily basis you should find a community that is within minutes of I-95. People who live in or around WGV seem to like it.

I wasn't referring to living necessarily inside WGV but in the surrounding area not far from 95. Not sure what you mean by "what kind of people?".

OK, I got ya. I think that the communities that are actually inside of WGV might be gated retirement communities like Cascades and The Neighborhoods. But the homes around WGV (e.g Murabella) are all working families with kids attending the school system that the OP was interested in.

No personal experience here concerning the school.

Have you researched greatschools dot com? I like that the reviews are made by parents and students. Plus the personal school website can sometimes be a great indicator of what that schools priorities are.

St. Johns County schools rank the highest, and Clay County after that. Duval County ranks the lowest, but has the best private schools. Therefore, you can do well in that right all around Jax.

There should be tons of rezoning in St. Aug as it grows, so don't count on your kids always attending Nease. Many of our friends have had their children rezoned once and even twice in the WGV area. Bartram High is also good. You can pretty much live Julington Creek area and south, and your kids will attend strong schools for the area. Check out homes in Julington Creek, Fruit Cove, Switzerland, 210 area, and WGV. You can also research Nocatee, as they will have St. John's schools, but that is an entire new town being built (I think a 20 year build plan). Ponte Vedra is also SJC, but both Nocatee and Ponte Vedra will be higher tickets in terms of cost. All in all though....St. John's ranks the best of the public systems in the area.

There are no particularly "bad" schools in St. Johns County- especially by Florida Standards, but be aware... a "good" school in FL is mediocre at best by standards of other regions that tend to comprise the upper tiers of primary education rankings (certain areas of the NE, the upper midwest, etc) If you're moving from Alabama or Northern Mississippi, you'll probably like St. Johns County schools a lot. If you're moving from Iowa, Connecticut or Minnesota, not so much. I don't know how the schools are in your particular area, but if they're exceptional, you aren't going to find that here.

In primary education, the best Florida offers in any public school is 'adequate' .

Just remember, a school system is only as good as the parents and students that go there. Florida schools mediocre at best? Moderator cut: edit
