I am on a low income budget and do not have the luxury of affording cable and internet packages through the cable company. Also, because my credit score is low, they wanted me to put down a $200 security deposit. I found a wireless router through CLEAR Wireless, it is run by AT&T towers. It is $49.99 per month, unlimited download time, no contract. With it, I stream all the TV shows and movies I watch. Keep in mind, every channel now has it's own website with full episodes available. Some programs are on Netflix and if your brave enough you can download certain programs like Breaking Bad with torrent websites. I hook an HDMI cable from laptop to my 42" flatscreen TV and I am in cable heaven
The downside is I am unable to watch live news broadcasts; however, I just heard ABC has live news stream which I am about to check out right now that I am thinking about it.
In my opinion, cable companies, especially Comcast, are such rip offs. My poor mother who is on social security lives in Summerville, SC and the only cable company she can use is Comcast. She is in a condo and no satellite dishes can be installed on the property so DISH is out of the question. They have a license to steal and we, as American's should stick together and all get CLear Wireless! LOL

If you're on a low income budget you shouldn't be spending $50/mo on internet so you can watch netflix on your 42" flatscreen. You should get a pair of rabbit ears that way you can get the local channels for FREE over the air. AT&T offers DSL for $19.95.

Cable tv is not a necessity, especially if money is tight. With a basic antenna (placed indoor or outdoor) you can receive enough free tv, local channels, PBS, etc., to fulfill the need for information and tv viewing with no monthly fees .

There are hacks out there for live cable new streams. Google it. Baqi, Hulkus, Ripsink, Justin, .... Sometimes they go offline then come back later.
Also if your mom has a balcony/patio it's illegal to prohibit satellite. She just can't affix to the wall or roof or ground.

Coco, definitely get a hi def antenna at most stores starting at about 20 bucks. If your tv is really old, like really really old, you may also have to get a converter for it.
