That's something new if that's the case. As of 2 years ago, they were writing in FL - I had gotten a quote from them when I was shopping homeowner's insurance.

Closed on a new home 12-18-07 and got my homeowners through Tom Brockelbank, Inc: Address: One San Jose Place, Suite 9: 904-262-6727. The Insurance Co is HomeWise. My other home is insured with ASI. I have never had a problem with securing insurance. I have heard that insuring a older home is difficult, but new construction should not be a problem.

We have canned calculations that we use when preparing buyer's estimate sheets, and I calculate it at 1365/yr. However, what insurance actually will cost can vary significantly, and is dependent on numerous factors, so you really should look around and comparison shop.

Default Cost Of Ins

I have two homes insured. One is value @ 570K, 4000 SQ ft with pool. I pay about 1800.00. The second home is approx 3700 Sq ft, value @ 449K with pool and I pay 1300.00.. One was built in 2003 and the other in 1997. I have full replacement value and a 500K umbrella to cover each pool. They both have a 2% hurricane deductible. These are current rates.

Default I've been through the same run around

I was having the exact same experience that Broozersnooze described:

Filling about a bunch of forms, no replies or else being overwhelmed with worthless information - and that includes the state's Shop & Compare Rates website.

The only site that wasn't a waste of my time was The Home Insurance Buyers Guide.

I had great results using it and it has since been featured in Florida Today.

It is the only way to buy insurance in this kind of market with all the misinformation, etc.

Good luck!

Default State Farm insurance will not renew insurance coverage in 2008 for any homes within one mile of the coast

Here's the article: The Ponte Vedra Leader, for up to date news and classifieds (http://beachesleader.com/articles/2008/01/03/beaches_leader/news/doc477bacc7bc30a487301102.txt - broken link)

State Farm is our home insurer and our house is only half a mile from the beach. So keep your recommendations coming.

I don't know if Liberty Mutual is still writing policies in Fl. We have had Liberty for our homes plus multiple autos, from way back when we lived in NY. Decent carrier with reasonable premiums IMO. Does anyone know for sure if they are still writing?

[quote=Rismiller;2387730]I was having the exact same experience that Broozersnooze described:

Oh! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've made a notation of this valuable info. I called my former insurer about 1-1/2 weeks ago & found out my policy was transferred to a subsidiary & I should've received my policy by the end of December. It's probably not the coverage I would've chosen & EXPENSIVE but it'll buy me some time to look around for something more acceptable. I THOUGHT it would be a big PLUS that I've occupied this home for over 32 years but that was one of the obstacles. Oh, well.
