the difference is the nights in the summer. You won't go below 70 in the evenings here where in Charlotte you'll have lows in the 60s in the summer.

Not true. It stays pretty warm 24/7 thoughout the summer. Highs in the 90s, lows in the 70s for most of June-August. September is usually when we start dipping in to the 60s at night. Of course, we do have the benefit of having mild winters.

Not true, that's the perception, but simply not true. It only hit 90 or above, 12 total days in all of July this summer. The average high at the height of summer is 90 degrees in JAX. It's 89 in Washington DC and they have red alert air quality all summer long on top of it. The extreme heat and humidity is way overblown here.

Clarification: Based on being from Jax with 2 generations of family in Duval County and St Johns.
We've lived in the Carolina's now for over 20 yrs and make it a point to visit Family 2/3 times annually.

Again, Not knowing the situation other than your initial post "Are we crazy to be considering a move back to FL?" Consider the long weekend approach.

Let's just say there are better options to quality of Life. Location and opportunity for starters.

And, please don't assume. Jacksonvlle has much to offer...But, has changed immensely over the yrs and not for the better of it's residents.

Peace

Thanks. How has it changed?
I know that every city has it's pros and cons. I live in Charlotte NC, which is a nice enough city, but it's still lacking. If you go over to the Charlotte board you'll see people who bash that city too. Some who moved there thinking it'd be great and ended up not liking it. There's always going to be people like that. And no place is ever going to be perfect.
I lived in Orlando from '99-'01 and go back every year. I can't believe how much it has changed (becoming overdeveloped) and how much worse the crime has gotten. That's one place I wouldn't move back too.
I do plan on going to Jax for a long weekend and exploring the area. Nothing is set in stone so I just want to gather as much info as possible.

Unhappy Quality of Life

Quality of life can be measured by many things.... With cost of living being one of them, I think that is something Jacksonville can offer but other than that it's really lacking.

With a low quality of life, a cheaper housing market could be an option. Also, many adults with children can enjoy affording their children's sporting events and activities. That is quite huge here.

However, this all comes with a price.... People are very focus on beer, spectating and playing sports rather it's in the water or on land. But nobody seems to focus on academics or culture.
Nobody thrives here, and whenever you bring up or bring in a child in this environment they will most likely end up being the same as their peers.
Many people in Jacksonville feels like they have a good quality of life because nobody strives for more.

Totally disagree with this -- Many of the older historic communities that surround JAX are definitely a bright spot with lot's to offer its residents, as are the beautiful beaches and fantastic weather in the region. Miramar, Ortega, San Marco, Avondale, and Riverside are all great places to live, have nice parks, walkable neighborhoods, unique shops and restaurants as well as being close to the best arts & culture in the city --these areas mostly surround Downtown and are close to all major amenities - museums, sports, concerts, etc. Also make sure to check out Julington Creek Plantation and Fruit Cove as well for a great family environment, lot's of activities for the kids, and excellent public schools.
