OK we would like to take the kids on a weekend trip to see snow. Any ideas? We have 4 kids ages 13 and under, so minimizing drive time is key! I have read about Stone Mountain, GA (mixed reviewed), I know about the mountains of NC but that is a good 8 hour car ride. Any other ideas that might be closer? We are not looking to ski but just play in the snow, maybe tubing or sledding? (And I know we can fly I was hoping to find a hidden gem that's driveable!

Thanks!
Lisa with 4 kids and a dog

NC is going to be your best and probably only reliable option if you actually want to ski..

You could head to the mountains near Dahlonega, Ga. because if it's snowing anywhere in Ga. it's more than likely snowing there!

IMO - if you're going to "do snow" - do it right - in a real snow place. Like somewhere in the Rocky Mountains (which obviously involves a flight). Might not be this year or next - but don't do it half-baked in the SE (which is - at best - what it will be). Robyn

We go to the Boone, NC area every year just to see snow. You could definitely try the Georgia mountains which is about an hour closer, but snow wouldn't be guaranteed. Boone is between NC's two ski resorts, so we know if we don't see real snow we'll at least get the fake stuff.
