Thank you abvavgjoe! Lots of great info here. Any moms out there could share their experience, maybe?

Thanks for your time.

The new subdivisions near the airport are just fine.

The "big group fight" that a previous poster referenced was just a bunch of teenagers during a holiday break, resulting in zero damage and a few arrests. An aboration.

That area is actually one of the fastest growing in Jax, with new shops & offices (including a new hospital) going up.

The NW quadrant of Jax, which is not this area, is very bad. But again - that's not this area.

With that said, the previously mentioned areas of Riverside & Avondale historic district and San Marco are 2 of my 3 favorite neighborhoods, along with the Springfield historic district, all of which surround Downtown Jacksonville.

Of these, San Marco & Avondale are the "safest", although none would be considered "unsafe" for your Average Joe or Jane.

I know one person personally who works at the airport, and she happens to be my neighbor, Wendi:

As far as great private elementary schools, you won't do much better than RPDS: http://www.rpds.com/

I'm an alum : )

Thanks fsu813!

I can tell from your response that the quality of your education is pretty good :-) I did check the school and it looks great - 65 year old school. I like the after care program too.
I couldn't open the link to Wendi, but will try in a different computer.

I generally believe that if one stays out of trouble, trouble stays off them, so I hope I'm right :-) But, am going to check all the areas you mention. The drive doesn't look that bad.

Thanks again. If anyone else know of any good private school close to the airport, please, please let me know. I am scanning so many posts , and it hasn't been easy. I guess I have to move and then decide on the school.

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!!

Thanks JBtwinz!

I will check it out. I plan to stay one week in the area. I hope it's a good school and plenty of nice programs!

Our daughters will be going into to kindergarten this fall........but from everything I have seen and read the school system here in Nassau County is ranked pretty high in comparison to the rest of the state and was recently mentioned as having one of the highest graduation rates in the state......It still boils down to what the children and their parents are willing to put in......my opinion.

We are starting to have a bump up in real estate sales and the rental market on and off of Amelia is starting to tighten up!

Thanks JBtwinz,

I appreciate your response. Good luck to your daughters!!!

I did check Saint Michael on-line and will visit it next week. My son is in Kindergarden and I love the school he attends right now: small classrooms, people know each-other and the education kids get is simply amazing.

I found also an apartment complex in that area that offer babysitting services..Really nice :-)

So, I am in Amelia Island, and it is a long drive to the airport, and I feel that it is not my kind of lifestyle, but maybe I am not driving too much around. I love it, but it looks too quite.

Distance is is a measure of your comfort and habits. I am in and out of the airport a lot and the 35 minutes is nothing to me (my commute each day is about the same also).

As far as it being quiet.......this time of year it is. Starting with the Amelia Island Concours things will really start to pop as far as things to do with Shrimp Fest, Sounds on Center Street and many more.

The island gets really busy from May to September with tourists and those just heading down for the day to enjoy the beaches. We have never been at a loss for things to do.

FSU mentioned Riverside and Avondale which might be a bit more suited to what you are looking for and it might be a shorter drive to the airport.

If I had known you needed a tour I would have obliged for a beverage

Good luck. DM me if you have any specific questions about Amelia.
