Plenty of suburban areas rent for less, especially if you factor in roommates. For young, trendier areas I'd suggest Riverside, San Marco, or Tinseltown area.

-whats the best city in FL for "young professionals"

Probably Tampa or Ft Lauderdale. I think Miami and Orlando next, followed by Jax.

-activities for young, single residents in JAX

Lots of drinking and eating. Jax also has tons of water sports and is a short drive to many destinations. There are also a fair number of concerts, theater and other touring shows that come to town, though I'd say it's a bit below average for a big city.

-are there lots of job opportunities for the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, resorts) or human resources field?

Hmm...probably ok. Not as many as you'll find in the other big cities in FL. Not sure about the general "HR field" but Adecco, the largest staffing company in the world, has its North American headquarters based in Jax.

-silly question: are accents thick down there? i LOVE southern accents lol

There are some heavy southern accents, but I don't think it's prevalent. You'll come across it regularly though and probably moreso here than the other big cities in FL.
