So we may get way involved with the Mayo facility for transplant and follow-up. If so, it probably would make sense for us to relocate from the gulf coast side. Nearly retirement age, schools not a factor, safe neighborhood, maintenance-free arrangement needed. Mayo neighborhood west to 295 or east to beaches desired.

We've spent a few weeks, some days at a time, around JAX, like it. You've got some things going on.

Anyway, these $100k +- condos and patio homes--any issues? How's the market? We can own or rent, any reason to favor one over the other? Please pitch in.

I'd rent in that situation, if only for the reason that you'll have enough going on without worrying about homeowner nonsense like roof leaks, broken water heaters, etc. If I were going through medical issues, I'd much rather have someone I ca just call and say "something broke, come fix it". YMMV. Plus, renting gives you the opportunity to find somewhere you'd maybe like to buy once things settle down, or the knowledge that the area's not for you and the ability to move on. Let me do some thinking on neighborhoods.
