Hello,

I'm looking for some input from people that may have moved from PA to Jacksonville. Specifically the Philadelphia area if anyone is out there. We lived in Ocala, FL before so in general, we are familiar with the good (beaches, slower lifestyle, warmer winter weather) and the bad (overall quality of schools, summer heat, bugs, snowbirds). But we lived there before having kids which puts a whole new spin on things. Can anyone share their experience of making the move from the northeast with kids?

I'm interested in hearing about whether or not it was a good quality of life move for you. I am hoping that a move to Jax will bring about more opportunities to get the kids outside and active.

Is there adequate pediatric medical care in the area? My son has asthma and would need some specialized care in managing it in the new environment. And you just never know what could come up. I would hate to have to rely on Gainesville or Orlando for medical care.

How are the schools of Clay County (Fleming Island) and St. Johns as compared to Phila suburbs?

Lastly, how is the general safety? We live in a very low crime area in the suburbs but work and play (museums, sporting events) in high crime areas. So we can only avoid it to a certain extent. Is it the same in the Jacksonville area?

I appreciate any responses!!!

Moved this year from a neighboring state. Love the schools (St Johns) though they are bigger (and county-run) and there are some strengths and weaknesses. I read an article that said NE FLA has one of the 10 lowest incidences of asthma in the US. They think that is due to less pollen and ocean breezes. I've heard people say their child had asthma before moving here, and no probs in FLA.

YES, it is very easy to be more active outside! Traditional sports options, beach, nature, so many things to do and see....and mild weather most of the year...easy to spend lots of time outside.

Thanks for the reply snuffybear. It would be wonderful if we could better manage his asthma down there!
