The beaches communities would be a good fit.

Guamanians mentioned Riverside. i am going to say Springfield. Both are urban core close to downtown. Not a long drive from either as long as you are not doing it at rush hour.

I say Springfield because your words:
"I enjoy volunteering at dog shelters, going to farmer's markets, walking my dog, little coffee shops and going to the beach and would love to find a group of awesome friends (and my hubby!) in a great little town. I'm not into the club scene, but do enjoy live music at local bars. I don't care about fancy restaurants or museums or high society...."
is so Springfield. Home.

Either way, Jacksonville will be a good choice.

And let me make clear, I am referring to Historic Springfield. North of Hogans Creek, south of 14th St. Ionia St to the east and Boulevard to the west. It is one square mile. Out side of that area can get sketchy.
