Hi, I'm considering a move to OP but I hear some negative comments about it and am concerned.
I have oakleaf plantation in mind. I have 3 school aged girls so school and safetey are my priorities.

I would also like to be in a place that's not too far from wining and dining, shopping, etc.
I am a realtor so more than likely will be working
from home office.

Thanks in advance.

Oakleaf Plantation from what I hear is a great community for families and I don't think you would have any issues there.

Many parts of Jacksonville get "negative comments", but most come from personal preference/opinion, and some of these are not expressed diplomatically, but as negative without any good reason given. I realize that searching the Forum for threads about Orange Park can be overwhelming - there are a lot of them - but sift through the posts and you'll see helpful comments in which members state why or why not they like or dislike OP.

Thank you all and Eric I will contact you regarding the offer if things don't work out with my current broker. Thanks!

Can anyone give me info on the traffic horror stories I've been seeing, the threads for OP are old so it's hard to really
get an idea of what's it like today.

The few times I've ventured over to OP traffic was a nightmare. The last time was a Sunday afternoon and it was bumper to bumper traffic through 295 and then onto Blanding. Blanding actually has signs that say something along the lines of "High accident area, please pay attention". I kind of laughed at it when I first saw it then quickly realized why the sign is there - the roads are windy, speeds are relatively high and there is frequent braking (often times "hard" stops).

I imagine plugging that into your auto insurer's website would show your rates skyrocket.

But OP has everything - shops, stores, gyms, etc. so convenience is not an issue there. I just cannot imaging having to fight that traffic every day.

I have lived in Orange Park for 3 years now and I like it. My son had to finish his last two years of HS here and he had no problems. Traffic on Blanding is horrendous, but there are ways around it. I lived in a smaller, denser city prior to moving to Florida, so the traffic was similar, but compared to some other parts of Duval/Clay it is busy. The nice thing about living here is the proximity to shopping and it's a quick drive up to Riverside/Avondale for a nice evening out. Fleming Island also has some good dining options. I'm not too impressed with the dining options in Oakleaf, but it's growing, so that may change.

The town hall in OP proper hosts a weekly farmer's market, there is a nice 4th of July celebration and a fall festival. They are nice and add to the small-town feel. I believe Oakleaf also has similar activities.e

All in all, I've found Clay County & Duval to be a nice place to live. Just my 2 cents.

Jewellee thanks for your reply I find it to be a relief as I have one in HS so that's great to hear. I am originally from NYC but have been in Atlanta suburbs for the past 9 yrs so by now I'm well acclimated with small town vibe. At least I'll be able to see the ocean and having easy access to places for a nice evening out sounds awesome.
