Does anyone know why the Buckman was sited at that point on the St. Johns? A couple miles further south and the river is about half the width to cross -- and possibly half the cost to build the bridge. New to are and just curious.

1) Built in Duval County
2) To serve where it was most needed. Which would have been better a little farther north, but the residents there weren't gonna allow it.

Probably other factors but those are two.

A couple of miles farther south would have ran right through an already developed and busy Orange Park.

And also it is on the edge of Duval County. That far south would have been in Clay county.

I think the placement is fine, I think the issue was there needed to be another bridge between Shands and the Buckman. Clay/Duval planning was/is awful and always shortsighted. I mean, who though putting the entrance to Argyle right next to 295 was a good idea......

Of course, but the NIMBYs wouldn't have it.
