That's so bad. It could eventually lead to dogs not being allowed on the beaches at all in NEFL - it's happened in other places when the bacteria count from the dog fecal matter tested too high in the water.

It's nice of you to clean up, BlueWillow.

I don't think it's strictly enforced, but the dog hours are usually posted at the ramps/dunes.....I'm not sure if there are dog hours for every beach or just the busier ones?

Finally I can say one good thing about Fernandina! DOGS ARE WELCOMED! Keep your dog on a leash and you will be fine.

I know Walton County (over on the northwest side of FL) was very strict about dog licensing; I am pretty sure that dogs there are not only restricted to certain times, but also their licenses have to be Walton County, and the only way you obtain a dog license is by being a Walton County property owner.

Here in Nassau County on Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach welcomes leashed dogs at any time of the day. Unfortunately, I have had to clean up after inconsiderate dog owners, who make the rest of us look bad.
We have 2 little dachshunds and are planning on coming for a day to Fernandina so they can get in the water. Are dogs allowed on every section of the beach at any hours? Also, where is the best section of the ebach to take dogs that is real uncrowded?

Mickler's Beach is dog friendly! I think you have to keep them on leash. We always do. But there are always a lot of dogs out there. For what it's worth, I've never seen any poop on the beach.

It's not strictly enforced at Jacksonville/Neptune beach?I find that hard to believe.

Aren't there lifeguards right there during those hours(9-5) that will kick you off?
(assuming you don't get a ticket before the lifeguard even says something)

Dogs shouldn't be allowed on beaches. Especially the busy ones. Once you allow dogs on a beach....then of course you're going to have idiots running their large dogs that can bite people off leash. Just take a quick look at dog bite statistics. Their animals with big teeth. What do people not understand about that? It's a public safety risk. Most People almost always take their dog off the leash so they throw a ball into the water and have the dog chase it. Not to say there aren't responsible owners that actually keep their dog leashed, but many don't

Then you see these morons who have no control over their dog yelling for them to come and the dog doesn't listen to a word they say. And then of course you have people not cleaning up after their dog or the dog ****ting near the water ect. The beach is for relaxing. Not dealing with all that crap. The dogs don't' care where they run around and play. Go to a dog park! I'm all for building more dog parks

Atlantic Beach
City Limits – 17th Street to Atlantic Boulevard
Leased dogs are permitted on the beach 24 hours a day with current rabies license and city tag.
Required: Current rabies license, city tag, (residents and non-residents) leashed, held by owner/handler and remove feces. Cats required to have city tags.

Hanna Park
City Limits – Wonderwood Drive to 17th Street
Leashed dogs are permitted on the beach any time with current rabies license.
Required: Current rabies license, leashed, held by owner/handler, and remove feces.

Jacksonville Beach
City Limits – Seagate Avenue to St. Johns County Line
Leashed or unleashed dogs prohibited on beach 9a.m.-7p.m., April thru October and 8a.m.-5p.m., November thru March. Other times dog must be leashed and current rabies license and city tag.
Required: Current rabies license, city pet tag (if resident of the city), leashed, held by owner/handler, and remove feces. Cats are required to have city tags.

Neptune Beach
City Limits – Atlantic Boulevard to Seagate Avenue
Leashed or unleashed dogs prohibited on the beach 9a.m. – 5p.m. year round.
Leashed dogs permitted 5p.m.-9a.m., year round with current rabies license.
Required: Current rabies license, leashed, held by owner/handler, and remove feces.

As you can see there are areas and times you can take your dog without bothering other people. Very dog friendly, but at the same time respectful of of others who don't want dogs running around a beach while their trying to relax. The only thing I would change is no dogs allowed any time at jax/neptune beach and time restrictions for atlantic beach.(ie 9-5) Hanna park is the most remote anyway and dogs allowed on leash 24/7 is a perfect place for dog owners to take their dogs.

Sorry I missed your post; I was out of town for a few days.
Dogs are allowed on every section at any hour.
You could avoid the main beach if you want, and go to Jasmine Beach, Sadler (Seaside) Beach or even further down. But it's never all that crowded.
All we ask is that you clean up after your pooch.
