We put our house on the market and it sold the first day so now we are in a situation where we need a short term rental. We are thinking about having a house built so we will need something from around May till August. We'd like for it to be in St. Johns County, 3-4 bedrooms. So far I'm having no luck, anyone know of anything or where to look? Thanks!

For anything under a few months, the only options I have found aren't cheap. Those include an extended stay motel, a furnished executive apartment on a month to month term, or signing a lease on a regular apartment with a break clause that doesn't cost you a fortune. Alternatively you can sometimes find tenants on craigslist who need someone to finish out their lease term for them and that might benefit you both.

Have you checked with some of the vacation rental companies? Folks rent some of the beach houses for months at a time, so they might be more than willing to accommodate you there.

You want to have a house built but listed your home immediately without any planning?

The plan was to buy an existing home, we had a few picked out so we went ahead and listed our home and made an offer on the existing one. Our house sold the next day and the owner of the other home refused our offer because our we hadn't closed on our current house. So as I see it we had two options, we have to close on our current home, which leave us without a place to stay and buy an existing one. Or start building one now and still have to find a short term place to live. We tried to plan, it just didn't work out.

Very critical without knowing other person's situations. Obviously, they did quite well with their house if it sold within one day!

Everyone's life, financial situation etc. is not the same. No need to be judgmental.

Thanks for that, yea we had no idea ours would sell that fast. Unfortunately I can't afford two mortgages so we had to sell before we could buy.

The sell / buy thing is always tricky!

You're in the better situation that you sold first. Finding a rental won't be too hard. Did you look at beaches?

PM'ing you

I needed temporary housing for 4 months after relocating and ended up renting a vacation rental at the beach. I had the best luck finding vacation rentals on airbnb.com and craigslist. Other coworkers that relocated at the same time as I did rented corporate housing. Per my coworkers, the cheapest and nicest of the corporate housing was Candlewood Suites.
