Hello,

New to the area. Live close to Monument and 295. Need a quick and easy morning routine with my dog. I like to walk around lakes off leash so she can get real exercise. Ed Austin park has a dog park but it's not really enough for her. She needs to run free.

Where can I get away with walking her off leash before 8 am on weekdays? The arboretum opens at 8 am, as does Fort Caroline and that Tucuman place (sorry for the misspelling).

I need somewhere I can go before work with few people to hassle me, close to the area I mentioned. Let me know! Thanks! Bill.

From what I understand, dog parks are the only places you can have a dog off-leash legally...........well, except, of course, if you live in a house, your backyard.

Hi, we have one of those types of dogs too. There are strict leash laws here so be careful and have your leash ready. Mostly take our dog to the beach to run free, Katherine abbey Hanna opens at 6:00 am and also has bike trails you could try out. We also go to Bartrum preserve and guano river state park.

Also at timacuan there is a Spanish pond trail that is really nice and I don't think it is behind national park gate.

What beach is this? All 'JAX beaches' require dogs on leashes no more than 12' in length. AB allows dogs all hours. NB and JB are NO dogs 9-5 in summer and 10-4 in winter.

As long as you stay away from the peeps in carts with green uniforms, Kathryn abbey Hanna, micklers and the guano perserve are safe to take your dog off leash, don't think any of them have specific "dog hours". I take the dog on a beach hike a couple of times a week and have never run into problems at any of those places.

Though I must point out I never go when the beach is crowded. Plenty of people have theirdogs off leash. We have not been in jax a full year yet, maybe they are stricter in the summer. The horses at micklers can be a PITA.

And Why is it that dog owners are responsible for picking up after their dogs but the the horse owners are not?

This has to be somewhat of a ridiculous question! From a former horse owner, we can't do what dog owners can.

Speaking of Mickler's beach, cops were ticketing a bunch of cars that were parked on the grass outside of the parking lot all afternoon (ie. Ponte Vedra Blvd). Not sure which spots are legal or illegal but be careful if you're parking in the overflow areas.
