Was planning to leave our car here for 5 months a year while we were in Michigan for the warmer months. Condo complex parking in uncovered - no garage or carport, just parking lot. Was going to by a good car cover and put some damp-rid inside. Now that I am researching it I am realizing maybe there is more to it than that? Does anyone else do this? Is this not recommended? I am reading about tires, batteries, dampness inside car, etc. etc. and, cars getting ruined by leaving them over the summer. Any insight or advice? Does anyone do this and have fine results?

It depends on what kind of car it is and how much it's worth. If it's an expensive car I would pay to store it inside in a climate controlled building. If not, pump up the tires to 50#, use the damp rid and don't skimp on it and throw a cover on it. It will be hard on the car and if there are any big storms you might end up without a cover. At the very least, find a place to store it inside.

I store a car in my garage in Atlantic Beach for 4 or 5 months in the summer. It always smells musty when I open it up. I never heard of damp rid; it sounds like that may help with the musty smell problem. Thanks for the tip!

Are you sure your condo complex allows that?

I'd put it in a storage facility or rent a garage spot from someone if possible.

I kept one for a couple of summers in Ft. Myers Beach on a canal lot. The canal is about 30 feet from the carport and the salt air seemed to take a toll on the car. The carport kept it out of the sun, but I won't do it again unless I come down on a regular basis instead of just the winter.
