My husband and I work from home and can live anywhere. He does travel though so a fairly close airport would be great. So everyone says Saint Augustine area is the best, based on tourists opinion only. So if you were us, moving from Mass where would you move that fits this criteria? Beach , first and foremost must be near the beach ( 1 mile ). Other transplants ( from north would be nice). Shopping and restaurants important. Less traffic. Safe. Able to have a private pool in yard. $300K budget. Thanking you in advance for taking your time out to share your opinion.

I like the southern portion of Atlantic Beach. I would imagine you can get within a mile of the beach and in your budget. The Beaches Town Center is an awesome little area of shops and restaurants, where Atlantic and Neptune Beaches meet.

Have you priced that area of Atlantic Beach lately? People are paying $400-600k for tear downs. We bought our house there approximately 3 years ago for just under $500k with no pool.

$300K wont get you within walking distance to a beach, probably within a 15 minute car ride though....and you won't get a pool.

For that price you can maybe find a 40+ year old 1000 sq ft fixer upper and possibly a space for a pool which costs 30-50k depending if you want a screen and a distance from the beach. It depends what you are looking for. Private pools are not that common in Jax. We were looking and maybe 10-15% of the houses have them. Best to come down and look for yourselves like we did. There is nothing like "boots on the ground"

Try Nocatee.

And, there are LOTS of houses with pools in Jax and St. Augustine.

You might be able to find a decent small condo with a pool (not private of course) near the beach for $300k.

It's crazy isn't it! In all the beaches areas but esp AB, and NB and JB east of A1A!

LOL! The answer to your question WAS no...I was going by what one of my builders mentioned he was doing in the area (building 250k new construction a couple miles from the ocean in AB)

So I just took a peek on the MLS and while it is indeed scarce, I did find 7 listings less than 1 mile inland <300k. (423 Irex Road e.g.) Regarding a pool, I took the OP literally in asking for space for a pool but not actually having one. Anyway, yes, I know the area is very desirable, but really thats the best bet for something close to the water, close to shops and restaurants, safe, and not insanely expensive.

Anything in Atlantic Beach one mile inland is going to be pretty iffy. 300k actually sounds high for a location that far from the ocean and town. The further west of Seminole Rd the less desirable the property becomes except for the new Atlantic Beach Country Club.
