Hello,

I know there are always a million of these so bear with me. All advice; good and bad would be appreciated. My SO and I are considering a move to Jacksonville next summer. He is an accountant and I work in administration. Both 31, no kids. We love the outdoors and the beach so proximity is important. Right now, we live in Atlanta and everything is within a few miles of me (job, gym, etc.). He is from NC and I am from NJ originally. We are not "nightlife" people but like to try new restaurants, bars, comedy clubs, etc. Also love sporting events and plays. Ideally budget would be between $1,300-1,600 for an apt. Preferably two bedroom.

Given that, what are some area suggestions. Anything specific, like apartment names, would be awesome. It is super overwhelming trying to research areas when you don't know the lay of the land. We have been there a few times but just for the beaches (love Neptune!!) but I know that is not an adequate representation of the city at all times.

Any info would be AWESOME! Feel of the city, vibe, people, good and bad areas, problems?

Thank you!!!

Where would you all be working? The beaches are an excellent area to live within close proximity to all that you need (except perhaps work)

Your budget is very strong and should yield a nice 2-bedroom apartment in any part of town you choose to live. I'll just briefly list some areas and there's a ton of info in this forum about each of those neighborhoods that you can search for. Just be sure they are fairly up-to-date posts as some of these neighborhoods have changed a lot in a short period of time.

Beaches: Jax Beach, Neptune Beach, (southern) Atlantic Beach. These are the sort of walkable parts of the beaches. Jax Beach is heavy on nightlife so further north in Neptune or Atlantic might be a little bit more your speed.

Urban Core: Brooklyn is the yuppy, fancy extension of downtown. But it's a tiny area...just two luxury apt complexes in the area with a third proposed (and probably on the way in the next 3 years). Called 220 Riverside and Brooklyn-Riverside. You have a Fresh Market and a dozen of fancy retail/restaurants at your doorstep. Heart of downtown is less than a mile away.
Riverside is a blend of artsy, bohemian, and high-end polished establishments, but it is increasingly becoming more and more high end. This has been and still is the most walkable neighborhood in Jax. Bell Riverside is one of the few large apartment complexes in this area but it is ideally situated.
Also look into Avondale, Murray Hill, San Marco and Springfield, which are other neighborhoods in the urban core.

St Johns Town Center area: This is sort of in the midpoint between the beaches and downtown, and it's a thriving suburban area with tens of thousands of jobs (lots of corporate campuses). Depending on where you work it could be a decent compromise location-wise. There are some very nice apts to live within walking distance to tons of restaurants and stores (Uptown at St John or 5000 Town are a couple) and if you go down the road 1 mile you also have Tinseltown, Tapestry Park and Deerwood Lake that all offer many dozens more stores/restaurants. (In those areas look at Lake Lofts at Deerwood or leasing a condo in Tapestry Park or Deerwood Place) The drawback is that 1) you aren't at the beach or the urban core 2) the traffic is often atrocious.

Lol...I ended up typing more than I initially intended. Good luck!

You are absolutely correct, Neptune is the best. You can find a decent 2BR rental for your budget a block or two from the beach.
