Hi thanks for reading!

Ok so we are moving to Jacksonville FL from Tampa FL due to issues with family members and looking for a fresh start. This is something we've tried to work with for a long time, and have decided it is in our family's best interest to focus on our child somewhere where we don't have all the distractions and negativity-so we are not looking for advice in this department, just wanted to put that out there and also let you know why we are leaving Tampa.

Now that you know that, here is the next thing. My husband will be working in the city in Jacksonville, but we are having to take a pay cut in order to qualify to get assistance that my child with autism so desperately needs that our insurance will not cover. My child will be needing these services in ABA therapy for I want to say around 2-3 years, then we will reevaluate. But during this time, we will not be able to afford much for housing due to the pay cut.

So my question is, where can I find a place to live that is SAFE and still possibly large enough to not have to go down in size from 1200 sq ft townhome which we currently live in? We are looking for something up to and around 45 minutes commute to the Springfield Historical District area of Jacksonville.

Any cute suburbs, even country area more affordable and considerably safe outside of the city? Any info would be appreciated.....

Also if anyone knows any autism resources or can recommend any therapists....my son is 2 and won't be eligible for the school system until age 3 however we aren't sure that we will put him in public school or not( there are other options/programs for autistic children but it would still be good to live near a decent public elementary school with experience with autistic children, just in case.)

Also, if anyone can recommend apartment complexes just in case we can't find a townhome or house for about $800-950 per month. 2 bedroom+ , also a 55lb sweetheart dog. (so a fenced in yard, townhome, or 1st floor apartment would be good)

Thanks for your time!

SAFETY IS KEY IN OUR SEARCH! We are not city people but deal with it if we must!

You should not have a problem finding a safe area in just about any part of Jacksonville. Just stay out of the NW Quadrant of the city and you will be fine.

If your specialist for your son is located in the Springfield Historic District, i would start looking there. I live there. I wouldn't live any where in Jacksonville and I am a native. Finding a bungalow or a duplex to fit your needs in that price range should not be a problem.

Good luck.

For ABA services, you have several options in the Jacksonville area--below are a list of programs that are recommended by parents' groups. You can also reach out to certain FB groups -- JMB Moms of Special Needs Kids; ESE Support Group, as well as CARD (at UNF)

Great Strides
Beacon Pediatric
Bloom Behavioral
Behavioral Solutions
The Arc of St. Johns
Jacksonville School of Autism

If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Good Luck!

CARD is actually part of UF, but it has a Jacksonville branch. It's probably a good place to start if you are new to the area and want to find resources as I know it does a lot of referrals to government agencies, support groups, providers, etc that can help.

Thank you all, I am familiar with CARD and will plan to contact them. I went ahead and joined the Facebook group 93sportie recommended and JMB moms of special needs kids. Looked for the ESE group but couldn't find that one on Facebook.
