There's an apartment for rent just down from University and Playa way, in Monterrey.

Is that a fairly safe area?

The rent is about the same as I am paying now in Albuquerque, plus utilities though.

I need some help to follow my dream of living at least close to the Ocean and not getting myself into a situation I can't handle. I'm 57 years old, female, and so I need to work and drive around the City to do merchandising work at big box stores and Walmarts. I lived in Albuquerque growing up but bagged from here when I was 17 and moved to Maui. The ex went to school, got a great job and left me with the 3 kids. It was ok though, I had a great time. But, that left me without an education. But I can do merchandising jobs! The kids are long grown up and left.

I couldn't afford Maui anymore so I thought I would move back to Albuquerque. Well, it's a lovely City, just not for me. It's going to snow pretty good, pretty soon, and I find myself crying every day. I've saved a little, just enough to transition. My apartment lease and my current seasonal merchandising job are both ending this month, so now is a great time to try and move.

Check here. https://www.spotcrime.com/fl/jacksonville/arlington

It's been a while since I was there, but this might help with current reported crimes in the area.

Good luck!

Ok, well, what I really want to know is where are the cheap apartments where I won't get shot coming home? Where do the poor white people live?

That area is not the worst and not the best. Jacksonville is almost a block by block situation as far as crime and safety go. As long as you stay away from the North West Quadrant you should be good.

If you give us an idea what your housing budget is and do you prefer Urban or Suburban we can give you a better idea what is available.

That particular area is right across the river from Downtown which is pretty much center of town. 20-30 minutes to the beach depending on the traffic

I've been paying $500 a month, utilities included, where I live now and I'm doing just fine. Have a little leftover at the end of the month. The only apartments I've seen there that are in that range, granted not including utilities, are in what seem to be pretty scary areas as my research goes. I'm thinking I won't be able to move at all.

I know of a trailer park that has rents cheaper than $500 but again, not the best but not the worst. There probably are some places for you, but finding them is the problem.

Yea, I saw those trailer parks. I'm looking at land now, trying to find a piece with a well, septic and electric. Probably have to buy an RV or building something very small. Thanks for your help and answering my thread, I appreciate it very much!

Try the apartments on Monument Road. They are similar as in price, might be even cheaper if you get a studio. Not the best area but definitely not the most dangerous. It very close to lots of big box stores and restaurants. Lots of shopping. The racial breakdown is pretty mixed. I think you should be okay. I myself don't live too far from there but i pay higher rent, the closer you get to the water, the more expensive it gets. I wish you luck, don't give up on your dreams!
