I am moving to the J-Ville area this summer, and was curious about two issues.

Is the abundance of crime localized? I have lived in Atlanta,Tampa, and Phoenix, currently in Va. Every city had parts you just did not go into at night,if you were caucasian, and some parts even the day time.

Second ,wife will be working in St Augustine, I will be by the J-Ville airport how is the commute,or is there avaliable afordable housing between that does not require a tail gunner.

live somewhere that has easy freeway access. airport and st augustine is 40~50miles apart, on a busy work day, the commute can take quite a while, never mind the gas.
If you want to live in between the two work place, southside would be your mid point. Take 9A North to get to the airport, 95 South to St Augustine.
South of the St Augustine road towards the 95 freeway, could also be a good place to live.

I am in the Baymeadows9/A area of the southside
It take me 25 to 30 min to get to the airport and about the same to get to the rt 16 exit in St Aug. Where in St Aug will your wife be working ?
it is a large area some spots are as close as 8 miles from the southside

Cool Jacksonville, the beautiful

The near perfect fusion of Old South "Charleston" residents and modern advanced thinking, nearly always results in a tug-o-war. But find a better spot. ANYWHERE.

Stunning skyline, at night it even competes well with the great cities of the world. It's clean, safe (downtown...yes check Federal crime numbers), Sunday was beautiful and the riverwalks were packed with families, walkers, music and a spur of the moment festival. Fireworks over the river. Ability to be out of town in minutes. A booming industrial and port sector. We are the steamroller that is driving Florida. Sooner or later the press will wake up and figure out that in Miami they HAVE been "fooled again". A sprawling, what you see is what you get type no-nonsense kind of place. If I ever leave again, only two places qualify for "close"....

Medellin, Republic of Colombia, for it's eternal Spring and NO INSECTS.
Ft. Smith Arkansas/Poteau, OK, hillbilly towns booming awake with the lowest Cost of Living and highest retirement numbers in the land.

Where in VA are you from? We just moved back here from Richmond, so if you are from that area, I could give you comparisons.
