Could someone please let me know what the average ocean water temperatures are year round? Thanks in advance.

St Augustine isn't included, but you should get the drift.

We've found that for the water to be tolerable the temps should be at a minimum in the mid 70s. Anything below that can be a little chilly to the skin unless you have a wet-suit.

I'm out in the ocean at least a few times a week surfing year round in St Augustine.. Jan-march usually sees upper 50's lower 60's; march-may mid 60's to low 70s; may-November mid 70s- mid 80's; November -Jan low 70's - mid 60's
I have seen the water temps dip into the 40's in Feb which can be brutal
If you plan on being in the water in winter a 3/2 wetsuit and booties are a must. Fishing stays really good all year here as the fish don't seem to mind the cold too much
If you want a daily temp report check out www.surf-station.com

My personal comfort level has always been 65 degree water temps, provided the air temp is at least 70's, although upper 60's is fine if sunny out. But that's only because I'm from Jersey, where the water tops out around 75-77 degrees in August and is usually around 65 around Memorial Day/first of June at the very warmest. I'd imagine if I was from Florida and had been here my whole life, I probably wouldn't even wanna step foot in anything below 70, nor swim in anything below 73-ish or so.

I've actually been going to the beach and swimming into early December the past couple years.

I surf also and I also use the 65 water temperature/70 air temp and sunny rule for wetsuit conditions. I'm either in a 3/2 or a spring suit this time of year. I've never had to wear anything larger than a 3/2 here nor in California either. I haven't had to wear the 4/3 (or god forbid more) since the last I lived in Jersey in 2010. Current ocean temps in Jacksonville are 61. I'm seeing 63 for St Augustine. I'm in Naples at my grandparents for Christmas and the Gulf temperature is apparently 71 here and it will be in the lower 80's tomorrow. I definitely plan on taking a swim either tomorrow or Monday!

Southern California's ocean temperature tops out around 73 in August or September, so it never gets warm like into the lower 80's like it does here. It actually doesn't even get as warm as South Jersey ocean temps, but it also doesn't get nearly as cold. I think it bottoms out around 55 or so in February. Some years lower 50's. That's for So Cal. Nor Cal tops out around 60 or so.

The ocean temps in Northern California seem to stay within a 10 degree radius all year round, if I'm not mistaken.
