Hi all,

Another post from a Northerner...yeah, yeah My husband has always wanted to move to the south and I'm at a point that I too am sick of the grind and high COL.

We vacation in FL 2x a year and go during the summertime so we have experienced the heat/humidity. My question is about the local school aged children. Since it's so hot during their time off of school, what do they do for enjoyment? I imagine outdoor activities are out of the question (?)

Thanks in advance!

A little 90F+ heat isn't gonna kill 'em. Just give them plenty of popsicles, so they stay hydrated. haha Our kids enjoy our backyard pool, as often as they can. If we didn't have a backyard pool and lived in a neighborhood with a pool, they would be there often. The beach is sometimes an option, as well. But, when they're tired of being outside, they just come inside and watch TV or play with their toys or games. The first part of summer is also occupying by club volleyball, so that keeps them busy, too.

Popsicles and hose them down; they'd like that

They're certainly more resilient and adaptable than I am.

Pool/beach 'til around noon/1pm, then rest/relax indoors for the afternoon, then back out after 6pm for sports.

Summer camp, pool, beach, museums, libraries, in door rock climbing and play gyms like RebounderZ, movies and even though it is hot, it often cools down just enough in the evening that we will ride our bikes or go on a walk.

Thanks for the replies. The whole notion of so much sun and humidity is a foreign concept to me (HA). Like most young families, we're pretty active which is why we're considering moving; to maximize our time outdoors year-round.

It will be an adjustment but after a few weeks they will be like old pros. As mentioned above, stock up on their favorite cold snacks, and keep the sprinkler running. Get them out early so their energy is burned out by the time the high temps hit.
