The coal fired power plant that I always thought was a nuclear facility is closing down. Better for the environment.

I'm surprised that they were getting their coal from Columbia.

Looks like it is at the end of its useful operating life and will be replaced by lower cost natural gas facilities located elsewhere. Natural gas is still burning a fossil fuel to spin a turbine, though the technology and emissions controls are far better than they were in the past.

Hard to see people being displaced from their jobs at any rate. Not sure how the energy job market is in this area?

According to one report, employees will be given opportunities to apply at other plants. They have been given 9 months notice and most will receive generous severance packages. Close to a years salary.

But It sucks to loose a job anytime.

I used to work in this industry and when a power plant was decommissioned everything eventually went away, but it takes quite some time to do it all. I cannot speak for this company though.
