Hoping it tracks further west.
We're just gonna stay, too. I'm not too worried about the Jax area. I'm more worried about my grandparents in Naples. They live in a mobile home, which actually survived Hurricane Wilma, which happened a month after they moved there. Their neighbor is taking them to evacuate to a hotel. I had been planning to visit them this weekend for the past month or so.

We evacuated to their place in Naples for Matthew, which was never a threat to them at all. I have a feeling that the Jax area will not be as bad for Irma as it was for Matthew. Matthew did knock out power at my house for over a day, from what my neighbors had told me. We had Tropical Storm Colin pass right over us, I think it was June of last year. It wasn't that bad here. A couple of gusts, that's it.

I believe that the bridges close when the wind velocity exceeds a sustained 40mph.

I wish everyone would just stick to one model. Jax 4 News model looks totally different from NOAA.

https://www.news4jax.com/news/hurric...way-to-florida.

With NOAA it looks like we might be spared, with Jax 4 News it looks like we are dead center of the eye.

Even Tim Deegen has a different model.

Bottom line I know the storm is huge, unpredictable and dangerous but the inconsistencies of all the models really put into perspective that it is really imposssile to predict with any great accuracy.

So much effort to emphasize the need for Miami to evacuate and now Tampa and the west coast are becoming targets.

Now I do like this model with the ability to zoom!

HURRICANE IRMA

My three cents

We are staying, canceling hotel up north. Worst case scenario now sounds like a Cat 1 storm, but more likely it would weaken into a tropical storm. The eye moving up FL towards Jacksonville is actually a good thing as this will cause the storm to lose power significantly. I would be singing a different tune if I lived at the beaches or near the St Johns River but for now I'm confident in staying put, as are most everyone I've spoken to here in the area.

We're flip flopping with each advisory. Last night we were staying, now we're not so sure. My only fear is that Irma maintains cat 3 going up the west coast over warm waters and cuts across north east as a weak cat 2/strong cat 1. We'll also be in the northeast quadrant of the storm which is the strongest part of the hurricane.

We don't want to be stuck in PVB on Tuesday if the bridges are still closed and we're without power/water. Decisions, decisions....

We are in the same predicament......................we will base our decision on the 2 PM model.

Dam, Irma is fast becoming a tease to all those communities waiting to see who she is going to dance with!

Right now, in the Baymeadows/Avenues Mall area it's windy, BUT the sun is shining beautifully!

Did some say a hurricane was coming?

Ivan, I know some people are just getting a hotel on Jax side of the Intracoastal, so they are not "stuck" when bridges close. That might be a good compromise.

That's what we're doing as well. It's a PITA, especially with pets, but the St. Johns County official said they plan to turn off the water. I don't do well without water and electricity. We're staying at the same hotel as last year. They never lost power or water, and we didn't come home until power and water were restored at our house in PVB. We were going stir-crazy, but at least I was able to use my computer, tablet, phone, and Kindle the whole time. Fingers crossed that this time will be the same.
