Hi everyone,

I hope everyone is safe and sound after that nightmare hurricane!

Next Tuesday is the big day! I'm moving from NY to Jax. I was just there last week and I secured a job teaching second grade in SJC, and an apartment in the Bartram Park area.

After being there I'm starting to think that I might need to change cell phone carriers. I currently have T-Mobile, but I noticed I had some trouble getting a decent signal, or a signal at all. My friends have AT&T, but I know they can be pricey, same with Verizon.

I was thinking about switching to maybe Metro PCS, Boost or Ting to save some money, or maybe Sprint. Would anyone recommend anyone these carriers?

I switched from AT&T to Tmobile and I absolutely love it. Don't be so quick to change carriers until you settle in down here and see how it is in the area you decide to live. I have zero complaints. I have 3 lines with unlimited data/talk/text for $80 per month with T-Mobile.

I live in PVB in case you're wondering.

Ive had sprint down here for a couple years now. Never had a problem, and I have the best price compared to everyone else I know. In fact, during the hurricane I was the only person with service in my folks neighborhood in St Augustine. The commercials are true, no reason to pay more for a 1% difference.

Pick Straight Talk Wireless. You get unlimited everything for under $50 a month and it uses the Verizon network, which I've found to be the best in Jax. You can buy their phones (limited choices) or bring your own phone.

I spent 4 hours with Tech support and finally gave up. I brought my own phone and they could not get it to work even though its an unlocked Moto G4. If you can get it to work fine but the support is non existent in my experience.

This is the trade off for the low price, their customer service is outsourced to India and any time I have to call them I need to have a stiff drink beforehand to calm myself down. I personally no longer have Straight Talk because I get a discounted plan through Verizon at work, but two members of my household have them and other than the occasional glitch they've been pretty rock solid.

They do have iPhones and most of the more popular Samsung phones for sale but if you don't use those you might have to deal with their dreaded customer service, which I know is not fun at all.

Unlimited to 2, 8 or 12 and then throttled to 2G. Better off with T-Mobile which throttles you to 3G.

I've used well over 100GB per month for the last 6 months and I've yet to be throttled on T-Mobile (been with TMO since 2/2017). Don't want to let the cat out of the bag but there's zero congestion here on TMO network. I consistently get 80 down and 20 up in my neighborhood (I turn off wifi now).
