Hello, I'm new here and this is my first thread. I need to have a mobile home demolished, I understand it has to done by a licensed contractor and they will pull the permit. I wonder if anyone has had to use this service, and what they've experienced. Suggestions? Possibly a recommendation? I'm in Clay. Thanks in advance.

I've used this company before, about 7 years ago. I was pleased with their work. They're still in business, it seems.

I could see having to pull a permit but I question it having to be done by a licensed contractor. Why? Have a roll off delivered, strip the aluminum and recycle it and take a sledge and and an ax and start knocking it down and throwing it in the dumpster. Of course I am sure someone could have managed to lobby the council to pass a law in favor of contractors.

Edit: Just noticed you were in Clay. I was thinking Duval. But still.....

I can't imagine any place requiring a contractor for demolition, unless it involves hazardous material that requires a special permit to handle.

You have to disconnect power, water, sewer, and cap it all off at the appropriate locations. Any ol' amateur can handle that safely I'm sure.

Unfortunately, Clay requires a licenced contractor to demolish a mobile home. I had Burkhalter wrecking look at it and they gave me a decent price, BUT want 2/3 of it up front. No reply from Lockwood Quality Demolition.

What about if you take it apart from the inside and dispose of everything but the shell then have one of these companies come in, get the permit and need to deal with nothing except recyclables which they can make money selling?

If I take it apart, the only way I could dispose of it, is to take everything to the dump, and they would want to know what it's from, and they would say I'm demolishing it myself without using a licensed contractor.

I sincerely doubt the dump workers are going to question the source of some old plumbing fixtures, cheap old cabinets, ratty carpeting and broken up paneling. These are the things they deal with daily from all sources.

It's not the workers I would worry about, it's the people in the office there. Since Clay requires a licensed contractor the dump office has been put on notice to watch out for people bringing this sort of thing to them. I personally took some old shingles from a neighbors yard there once. A bad experience. The first things they asked me was: WHERE DID THESE SHINGLES COME FROM? ARE YOU A LICENSED ROOFER? WHAT'S YOUR NAME? YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE? Only after much explaining that I was only doing someone a favor, did I get out of there, but not before threatening me with POLICE ACTION, ARREST AND JAIL. I don't want to go though that again!!! And if I did this, this time I would go to jail!!!
