Retirement is still a few years out; maybe 5 or so. I am likely to retire alone and I am not the most socially adept person around, so I am drawn to the idea of a reasonably large 55+ community with a lot of clubs and activities. The reason for wanting a large one is for variety of people/interests. Sun City Center is a large Tampa community with prices starting fairly low; that's for smallish older units but they are actual regular constructed buildings, not manufactured housing. They also have nicer units for significantly more. But I am not crazy about Tampa; I like the east to northeast FL coast better. So are there any similar communities in the northeast coast area? Though I say northeast, I do prefer the southern end of it, like St Augs.

There is a Del Webb community in Nocatee/PVB, but that is just north of St. Aug. In your area of preference, I'd suggest Palm Coast. It's like half of all the elderly NJ Italians up and moved there.

Northeast FL, as of yet, does not have many large scale retirement communities, aside from a few condos here and there.
