I am the teacher who just accepted a job in Callahan. We want to rent an apartment for 6 months so we can

1. Save for a down payment on a house.
2. Have the opportunity to scope out areas in which to buy.
3. Much cheaper deposit than a rental house.

I haven't come across a plethora of apartments along that 200/A1A road corridor. Can someone point me to some good ones? Just need 2 bedrooms. Would like to keep an apartment under 1200. It's so crazy to me that a stinking apartment goes for more than that, but I digress.......

Thanks in advance!

Courtney Isles and Reserve at Amelia.

Unfortunately these are running at about $1300-$1400 a month for a 2 Bedroom 2 Bath.

This is an extremely tight rental market here.

At the airport (JIA) there is an area called River City Market Place (shopping) and there are several complexes there. A lot of people who work on island and off are finding rentals a lot cheaper in Saint Mary's just over the border in Georgia...............but they have an income tax.

Again, this area as I mentioned is seeing tremendous growth.

There is Nassau Lakes but the reviews are quite good.

Good luck and welcome to the area.

You wrote in the other thread that you had accepted the Nassau County position, which would not be Callahan.

Anyway, congratulations! I honestly cannot help with either of these areas.

I am pretty sure Callahan is in the Nassau County School System.

Well, yes it is. I'm 100% certain of the job I accepted and the school district.

Haha of course yall are right. At least I was correct about one thing (that I cannot help)

For some reason I was thinking Green Cove Springs was Callahan. And that you were choosing between something up in Yulee or something around Green Cove Springs. Which still makes no sense cause I see now that you said the other job was in Melbourne. In my defense today I started taking pain meds for a shoulder injury...

Congrats again!

I'm glad to see that the locals are much friendlier than the ones in Portland! That's promising! We are excited to get to Florida, but I'm nervous about choosing this area over Melbourne. I'm hoping it will be a little slower pace for my little one, and I'm also hoping to take advantage of a USDA loan for a house pretty soon!

You will be fine..........Callahan and Hilliard I am sure will have the small town feel you desire. Looking on a map, east of I-95 is where it starts getting crowded along with a road widening project from h$ll that has two years to go.

If you are on Face Book there are several groups for these areas.

Check out the Garden City/College Park area off Lem Turner Rd on the north side of Jacksonville which offers an easy 20 minute drive northbound to Callahan. There are a few reasonably priced yet nice apartment complexes there such as Northlake Apartments, Madison Woods and The Place at Capper Landing.
