I'm wondering how you're liking Jacksonville compared to Charlotte? Suburban life? Downtown scenes? Recreation? What's your verdict?

I can't speak to having lived in Charlotte but I travel there for work occasionally and the Charlotte downtown scene is infinitely better than Jacksonville's. In fact, I really could not use the word "scene" when describing downtown Jax, it's more of a conglomeration of offices with very few entertainment/dining options.

Im moving TO the Jax area next summer when my son grads from UNCC. I have been in the Charlotte area x33 yrs and cannot wait to LEAVE it. I transplanted ( escaped Miami) in the Cocaine Cowboy days when Charlotte rolled up its sidewalks at 10pm and TV went blank @ 1am. It waz a great place to raise my kids who went to Union Co schools as we lived in Indian Trail suburbs. Now, with all the traffic gridlock, the rapid growth of FUGLY
apts & McMansions Im done here.
Thankfully I have been commuting to Jax since 1989 and have friends there and know my way around. For a retiree, Im not looking for big nightlife but things to do on weekends in Jax and the surrounding areas. I usually make it for the Jazz Festival w/e, the shrimp fest in Fernandina etc. I also fish and am active volunteering and hope to continue doing so in Jax.

Have to agree with Florida2014. We lived in Huntersville, NC, which is right above Charlotte, for a year. We went to downtown Charlotte to see Hank Williams Jr. in concert and one of the streets was full of folks having fun. Of course they were much younger than us, but all we seen was smiles. Downtown Jax is much more of the "business" type scene than entertainment.
