We thought it best to rent first, before buying. Thus giving us more time to look around. However I don't believe we would need a year to do so, and would probably be better off renting short term/monthly.

We decided on the SJ area, and would like to find rentals in or near there. Are these types of rentals available there and what areas would be best ? Also, what are the drawbacks if any to doing so and would it be better to rent a home, condo or apt ?

I should just add that when we first move down we will be focusing primarily on the 32259, 32081 and the northern end of 32092.

Thank you...

Some folks that built in the 32081 Nocatee area rented in Sawgrass country club (while their house was being built) as there were apparently short term offers in there. Not sure if it was a condo/patio home or what but I know it was least two families that took advantage of this. I have also seen rental offers (on zillow I think) in 32081 that offered a short term option if you were currently building which may not help in your scenario other than the fact that people do offer some flexibility. If you aren't thinking a year lease would be needed, does that mean you aren't looking to build?

Thanks Gromicide, that was very helpful. Good to know the short term option is available if need be. As far as building, we're leaving that open for now.

My parents are considering moving as well, they're in their 80's. Are there communities there geared toward older retirees ? I believe they would prefer a quieter, more laid back atmosphere. Any suggestions ?

Thank you...

There are both active communities (55+) and assisted living in Nocatee. The assisted living has two areas - one offers more services for folks that require more assistance and the other offers less. Guessing they are priced accordingly. I'm not sure if 32259 or 32092 have anything similar. If there is anything in 32259 I would guess it's near Racetrack road (Julington Creek) which is a nice area). A but more congested and established.

Thanks again Gromicide.

I see there are quite a few options available in the area. We're all looking forward to heading down this summer to see for ourselves.
