I'd like some thoughts on what this area is like. Does the area see a lot of crime? Is it ghetto or more working class families? More secifically, the house that I'm looking at is near Edgewood Ave and Lem Turner Blvd south of the Ribault River. I've also been looking north of the Ribault River near Lem Turner and Soutel Dr. The houses look reasonably priced and I like the architecture of the homes in this area. Thanks.

This area is known as the Northwest Quadrant and, unfortunately, gets a bad rap for crime. Lake Forest is right next to 45th & Moncrief, which has its problems. There aren't gated neighborhoods like to the south and east of the river, but it depends on what you are looking for.

The area is a mix of all sides of the socioeconomic spectrum. This area is part of the "old city" so you will see more renovations and infill than new construction.

If you research crime data you will see an overall higher crime rate, but that also varies by neighborhood. I know people who moved from big cities who thought the "crime" and "blight" in that section of town is nothing.

I will say this is my least favorite part of town to drive in because of the aging infrastructure, primarily aging roads and obsolete design standards (e.g., no turning lane), which has resulted in many near-misses and aggressive/defensive driving.

Thanks. I've also been looking farther south in Murray Hill but I've heard that it's an up and coming neighborhood and the home prices are quite a bit higher.
