Where are the day-old bread stores besides these 4? (Jacksonville: to buy, bankruptcy)

These used to be a Merita Outlet at 9020 Beach Blvd but its been closed some time ago. What other discount bakery outlets are there in Jacksonville?

Merita was a part of Hostess Brands, which also made Twinkies. Hostess closed all bakeries and ceased operations after filing for bankruptcy. The unions chose to lose their jobs instead of taking a paycut.

There's a Pepperidge Farm store on Philips Hwy between Baymeadows and JTB.. At least, there's a sign up in a strip mall.. Every time I drive by, I think that I should stop and check it out.

I've been in there. Not really any great deals.

Americans love to TALK about taking a stand, drawing a line, not taking it any more despite the possible dire effects. But then when people actually TAKE a stand they get bumrapped. Alas, it's much easier (and safer) to talk than act.

Both sides "took a stand." The cost structure was unsustainable. Either the unions had to take a big pay cut, which no one wants to do, or lose their jobs completely.

Don't bother - there are no great deals, and the stuff is so far past the expiration date that most of it is stale. When I worked at a big call center on Baymeadows years ago, we used to buy that junk for training classes. They started to get wise....

I tried 1 of the Flowers Baking outlets. Their Natures Own standard wheat bread is $1, about 2 days before expiration date. Other more premium bread is $1.50. I suppose if you want to save money and can eat it right away or freeze it, it could be worthwhile at Flowers. Ive not been to Pepperidge Farm outlet, so cant say what their prices are like.

The American Legion post on Jax Beach frequently has free or reduced bread for their members.
Non smokers should avoid it though. I can't breathe in there. I had a VA doctor tell me the Legion and VFW kill more servicemen every day than Iwo Jima. Either your lungs or liver will get you!
