And yet with all those 'concerns' St. Johns is the 14th fastest-growing county in America...

Census: St. Johns County is nation’s 14th fastest-growing county

St. Johns County’s estimated population growth rate of 28 percent since 2010 ranked it as the 14th fastest-growing county in America, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Wednesday.

- The water IS NOT BLUE, it is practically black and has the worse waves ive seen in FL. I have surfed everywhere in Florida and the windswell Jax gets SUUUUUUCKS. If you surf, go NSB or anywhere in Brevard County. Central FL has the best waves and dont even think about trying to argue with that because you will be wrong.

Jax is south GA. It is not FL. There is nothing Florida about Jax. The "tourists" who visit the beach literally look like they come from a trash can.
I can only think of one word to describe this post...…...WOW!! Even though we are moving, sometimes I'd think this poster is right. They do have their opinion, of which they are entitled to.

As far as the shootings go, I really don't think those outside of the areas they occur, even care. The St Johns River, from Julington Creek all the way to the outlet to the ocean, is brown due to being "brackish" water...…..combo of fresh/salt. Wife and I called it "Root Beer" water.

Jacksonville, as well as any part of Florida or the South, East Coast or Gulf, just isn't for us anymore, BUT there are plenty of folks that like and love all of those areas. Florida has plenty of people living in it.

1. Despite what the other poster said, I live at the beach, and I can tell you for certain that while the water will never match what you see in Miami or the Florida Keys, it has glorious days of blue and green that are far superior to what it is in Savannah. It all depends on the weather and how stirred up the bottom is. For whatever reason, the beach and the water has been more spectacular in the past 3 years than I can remember in the last 35. Not sure why that is, but I'm not complaining.

2. You can usually tell.

3. Absolutely a military town, but it's in pockets. We have more land than any other city in the US, so it's not like you're going to run into camo's on a daily basis, unless you live in those areas close to Mayport, NAS, etc.

-Hey, it's Golf

-Rednecks, it is Florida

-Other than the cooler water temp, the surf is pretty much the same. The pier is the only place where attitudes are present, but I would say that about any pier in the United States. Even pier fishermen have ugly attitudes there

-The "browner" water color is from the St John's River and all the river sediment flowing out into the Atlantic in the Jville beaches. Check out the beaches if it has not rained in a while (towards the end of this week would be good, no rain until Sunday), and the water color will look better.

-IMO the one advantage Jax beaches have is the Mayport Jetty and the protection it offers for North winds and the ability to clean up NE swells. Better than any protection the Cape can provide (yes, better than Jetty Park!)

At the risk of exposing a well kept secret, try The Sake House in Jax Beach, in the Monkey's Uncle strip center. I promise you will not be disappointed.

We've heard of Sake House from number of people in PVB but I'm reluctant to try it. I just need to call and start speaking Japanese to them. If they can't speak it, I'm not going. Thanks for the heads up though.

If I needed to find authentic, I would just go visit Circle Japan when the owner was there and ask her in Japanese where she thinks the best place is.

Yea, had that conversation with her few years ago. There was one place in NB/AB by 1 ocean that was Japanese run (Tama) but the owner decided to go back to Japan before I was able to try it. Tomoko (owner of Circle Japan) told me at the time that other Japanese families are just as frustrated in finding that unicorn so to speak. She’ll give you recommendations but as she put it, “these are the best of the worst”. She’s from the same prefecture and city where I was born (Osaka) so she was completely honest with me.

It’s ok, just makes me appreciate the sushi in NJ that much more when I go to visit.

OP, I prefer the gulf for diving and fishing over the coast. I take my boat intercoastal and offshore but for me I just prefer the gulf more.

Jax is considered a military town like Savannah is and Charleston is. I have lived in Mt Pleasant (Charleston) SC, Savannah, GA, and St Augustine and out of the three, I would rather have Mt P.
