I would say Fisherman's Dock (they have 3 locations: PVB, Mandarin and Orange Park) or Safe Harbor in Mayport. Both are excellent. Safe Harbor has the best prices.

Kyles down near the north end of St Augustine (just around the city gates on US1). Just off the boat fresh.

Thank you!
Would anyone care to share their favorite local fish for different type of cooking?
Could the local fish be affected( unsafe to eat) with local water contamination?

My local favorites are red snapper, grouper and trigger fish (seasonal). I either fry them up and serve with lemon and tartare sauce or saute the red snapper with the skin on (crispy skin) and serve with picatta sauce (white wine, garlic lemon butter with capers). You can also grill them.

Other local fish include pompano, flounder and mahi. These tend to be cheaper. You'll also see tuna and swordfish but I tend to not go for those. Mayport shrimp is another local favorite (please don't overcook them). They're absolutely delicious fried or grilled.

blackened mahi is a local favorite. hard to mess up and a little spicy but not much depending on the seasoning. I cheat and buy chef pauls. butter a piping hot cast iron skillet and dredge the fish in seasoning. cook about 2 min per side and squeeze fresh lime juice on it at the end. beans and rise on the side
