We are contemplating a move to Jacksonville from the Atlanta area and we are wondering what the crime levels are like in the Fleming Island, Orange Park, and Middleburg areas of Jacksonville. In nearly two decades of life near the Atlanta perimeter, we've had tons of near misses with crime and we could use a bit of a breather.

If you live in one of these areas of Jacksonville:

  • do you feel safe?
  • do you watch LivePD or just go drive around in the evening?
  • what kinds of crime have you personally experienced?
  • what Jacksonville neighborhood or suburb do you consider the safest?

Hello, I have lived in Fleming Island for 4 years and feel very safe. I have never personally experienced crime while living here. My neighborhood did have a problem with car break-ins for a time. I have heard of some house break-ins as well. There was also an attempted abduction of a young lady near one of our elementary schools (they found and arrested the guy). News of these things really travels because it is so unusual for our area. The terrible driving is probably my number one main concern with the area. The speeding, accidents, and angry driving. However, I think that is a problem with the entire Jacksonville area.

I have coworkers who live in Middleburg and do not have any complaints. You will get a lot more house for your money as compared to Fleming Island. That said, I chose to pay more to be in Fleming Island as I feel the area is better kept and feels more safe. I would not recommend living in Orange Park unless price is a major factor. I am sure there are safe areas of OP and do know people who live there by the river, however it feels over crowded and less desirable to me.

The only areas I would consider living in is Fleming Island or Saint Johns County. Mostly as we have school aged kids and both have great schools and seem to be safe.

Hope this helps.
