I was surprised as heck the other day when I found a little (1" or so) brown scorpion in my livingroom! Thank goodness it was dead. Anyone know what kind it was? Poisonous? I think it may have come in on my firewood or through a teeny opening on my slider since that's where it was near. I understand they don't like wetness and with all the rain we had last week thought maybe it came in to get dry. Do I need to spray or was this just a one time fluke?

In the last couple of months, we've had three in the house - each in very different places (very much alive). We are relatively new to the area so, I wasn't sure what to make of it either!

That's unusual. In 20+ years I can only recall seeing one.

I've had them in the house - I've found them both dead and alive.

It's usually in the new developments that you find them. When the woods are disturbed, you can see them around during the first few years until things settle down again.

The tiny little reddish scorpions are the Hertz Scorpions and they're pretty harmless. Outside, you might come across a Florida Bark Scorpion - these ones are big - I saw one on my fence (my dad almost put his hand on it ).

Unless you're allergic, it's just a bug bite like any other from what I understand (never been bitten), the Florida scorpions are not the dangerous/poisonous ones. Also, they really don't want to to bite you, they will run from you.

When I've found them alive in the house, I just scoop them up in a cup and put them in the woods out back. Scorpions are beneficial insects that eat the bad bugs .

This is funny since I posted a similar thread when I first moved here.

I also saw an Armadillo that later died (I saw him in next to a gutter).

It's sort of a tradition. Whenever someone new moves to Jacksonville, their neighbors sprinkle a few scorpions in their house "for good luck" !

Nah, these are native scorpions . The Hertz ones are actually very cute - they are teeny tiny .

My husband has lived here a loooong time, and he never saw them until we were in a brand new house.
