We are looking to retire in Jacksonville but our son might come with us. He will be be graduating from nursing school with a bsn rn in Nj. Afterwards he will have about a year or 2 of experience. Is there any major hospitals that are comparable to those in NY, Philadelphia, and New Jersey? And would anyone know the rate of pay? We are looking to get a single home or townhome completely upgraded for the cash purchase for 200000. Is this a reasonable amount?

It seems like every nurse from NJ is coming to Jax by the posts here recently. I think the consensus from many FL forum posts about nurse pay is that it is a lot lower than up north, although I am not in the health industry so I cannot give any firm information.

As to a house or townhouse, in my time looking at properties here over the last year, $200k is not a good budget currently. You might be able to find a townhouse for that amount in a decent area, but a single family house would probably not be in the best area, or have to be way out in the country at that price point. I know there are still some townhouses here in the Bartram Park area that you can get for under $200k, but that pool is shrinking fast. The Town Center area might be another area to look for a Townhouse in that price point. Both areas will give you a relatively new townhouse, so updated shouldnt be an issue. Otherwise the Mandarin area has some at that price point if you are willing to do some renovations.

A 200K budget will leave you disappointed. Remember, pay is lower here on average (we pay in "sunshine").
